Welcome to my page! I'm Halley May and I am as Southern as my name! I grew up as a small town girl with big dreams and an imaginative spirit. Today, I use my imagination and creativity to show you How-to with Halley!
My how-to videos show you how to get creative and do different things no matter how small your budget. Just because you are stuck with a tight budget doesn't mean you can't be fabulous! I hope you can gain some inspiration from my How-to videos, save some money, and have some fun!
These ideas are great for a girls night in, crafts with the kids, and just learning how to be a frugal southern belle; I’ll even show you how to bait a fishing hook!
I'm passionate about How-to with Halley but that's not all that I do. I always knew one day I would be on TV. As a young girl, I wanted to be like my relative Edward R. Murrow.
I wasn't interested in journalism originally. I spent countless hours watching QVC with my sweet grandma Farlow and at the mere age of seven, I decided that my dream job was to be a gabbing girl of QVC. This is when the madness really began. My sisters and I would film commercials, QVC segments, and concerts.
As we got older, my brother even joined in! Most of the time, they ended up on the other side of the camera, while I put on a show. They would laugh until they cried and sometimes just get aggravated with me. Nevertheless, they let me be their little star.
As I got older, I realized I wasn't just going to be handed a job at QVC. I needed to work my booty off! Literally, I gained the ‘freshman 20’! lol
I decided to major in broadcast journalism, with a concentration in news and documentary to become a reporter. So that's just what I did. I attended The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. I have to be honest, it was REALLY hard to work full-time and go to school. I wasn't one of those kids whose parents could pay for everything. Actually, my parent’s couldn’t really afford to help at all. I was responsible for all of my bills and at one point even worked four jobs as a full time student. When you are determined, there's no room for excuses!
When that sweet day of graduation came, it was all worth the struggle. I got my first job in TV as a general assignment reporter at WPDE News Channel 15.
Shortly after, I auditioned for the Host of Hotelevision with Carolina Video Group and got the job. Meeting Ralph McCloud was one of the greatest blessings! After a few months, I started hosting The Business Connection in Conway, SC.
I currently host Hotelevision, The Business Connection, GTV22, Visit Myrtle Beach TV on Roku, and serve as the spokesperson in commercials for various organizations.
I feel so blessed to be doing what I love after all these years. No matter what anyone says, do what you're passionate about and never give up. If I can come this far, anyone can. I've been told “no”, I have been laughed at, and ignored more times that I can count and each time I've gotten back up.
Remember, when it comes to who believes in you, the only "who" that really matters is YOU!
